Michigan's own Mason Proper has spent the last few years quietly and confidently rising to the top of the state's independent music scene, on the strength of their energetic (and often dangerous) live shows, and inventive experimental pop recordings. It all came to a head in 2008 with the release of the band's second album, Olly Oxen Free,
which arrived to critical acclaim for it's successful fusion of beautiful minor-key pop songs and gritty electronic flourishes. Real Detroit Weekly loved the latest evolution of the band's sound so much, they went so far as to declare "Mason Proper are not just one of the best bands in Michigan, they are one of the best bands making music today."
