The Mayor Pete Kennedy
Weekdays 9am - 3pm
Born in Canandaigua NY, Pete Kennedy grew up the youngest of 5 Irish kids. His dad "Ham" was elected as Mayor of the city of Canandaigua and served 14 years while his youngest son Pete stole the title "Mayor". Ham earned the title and Pete pilfered it.
Pete helped a bunch of his buds at St. Marys School to found an actual radio station that played music over the PA system during lunch. Many of the nuns were less than impressed by the musical selections this young mob played over WSMR. Later, "Mayor" also served as captain of his beloved Canandaigua Academy football team the Braves.
After successfully graduating from SUNY Geneseo where he spent many hours "studying" humanity while DJing and bartending at the world famous Inn Between, he headed to the bright lights of the big city of Rochester NY where he's been rockin' Rochester radio waves for 25 years, now crankin' great tunes on 100.5 the Drive.
When not heckling callers and having fun with them on air, he's actively out working' the streets at various community and charitable events. Last year alone he was involved in over 120 events and has plans for many more in 2012.
Had a great wknd., from the Ontario Co. ARC's Cruisin' for a Cause on a beautiful Sat. night on Canandaigua Lake, to Dog Day Afternoon where thou$ands were raised for neglected dogs who were on scene at Olies in Summerville Sun. afternoon available for adoption. Sun. night I emceed the Min-D Open at Braemar Golf Club in Greece. Hope you had as fine a wknd. as me, and a better wknd than:
-- 1 man who was killed and 6 others wounded during shootings Sat. night into Sun. morning on the city's northwest side. All the shootings were in a relatively small area of the city by Jefferson Ave. All not far from the Clarissa St. Reunion which was going on not far from the violence. Bad kharma surrounding that area. Many demand an end to this senseless mayhem but there are few answers to how to stop this urban crime. Lack of parenting and gang influence is a continuing problem in the city. Many of the victims this wknd. are in their 20's, while the murder victim was 59-years-old. Today, instead of enjoying his new found retirement, this man's family is planning his funeral.
-- Buffalo Bills quarterback E.J. Manuel. The rookie has played well as the Bills have started off 2-0 in the preseason. Manuel helped to lead the Bills to victory at home Sat. night, but woke up with a swelled knee Sun. morning, and is now recovering from a "minor procedure". He'll be lost to the team for at least a couple of weeks, and possibly longer. He has given new hope to long suffering Bills fans in a short time, and suddenly he's missing in action on the field. Again, bad kharma just as the hope was fresh for the new season. Bills fans can only hope for the best. How many years have we been doing that?
On the brighter side, this week we gear up for the 9th Annual Fairport Music and Food Festival on Lift Bridge Lane along the Erie Canal. 15 bands will entertain from 3 stages noon til 10p Sat.
