If you have a three day weekend ahead with the observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jrs. birthday, here's some things to do to fill the time:
>> Amerks hockey: The boys are home Fri. night at 7:05 vs. Syracuse and for a special Monday matinee vs. Hamilton at 1:05. Monday's game is a tribute to first responders. First responders can get a free ticket for Monday's game by calling the Amerks at 454.5335. The team will wear special jerseys with a patch honoring the West Webster Fire Dept. heroes. After the game, the players will autograph the uniforms and auction them off on-line to benefit the families of the WWFD. Hockey for a great cause! More at www.amerks.com.
>> New movie action: If you haven't yet taken in Zero Dark Thirty and watched as the SEALS successfully went after Bin Laden, try out the Oscar nominee. Be ready to sit as it is a long flick, but so was the search for America's number one enemy. Also new this wknd. is Broken City, starring Mark Wahlberg (Marky Mark has come a long way from his hip hop days). Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones add drama to the flick.
>> Football or sled dogs? If you're not into watching the NFL Championship games Sunday between San Francisco and Atlanta, followed by Baltimore against New England, take the family out route 64 to the Mendon Ponds Winterfest from 11a-4p. Plenty of fun including cross country skiing, wagon rides and the famous sled dog races. The NFL games don't start til late afternoon, so take it all in.
>> Salute to Spencerport! 1st Lt. Zach Gonyea from the canal town will help to coordinate the military during the Inaugeration ceremonies Monday afternoon in Washington. Beyonce will perform the national anthem while Kelly Clarkson will sing My Country Tis of Thee. God bless Zach and all in uniform....God bless our troops.
