The nominees for the Academy Awards (known to we peions as The Oscars) were announced at 8:40am. Fairport's Philip Seymour Hoffman has once again been nominated, this time for his role in The Master as he is a contender in the Best Supporting Actor category. Good ol' Phil has become a regular at the Oscars and he deserves the recognition. I met him once randomly in a hotel lobby in Santa Monica CA. Weird that I've never seen him in his hometown here but run into him near the beach 3000 miles away. He seemed like a nice enough guy, although we were both deep into our cocktails at the time and he may have been acting!
The nominees for Best Picture are: Armour, Argo, Beasts of The Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Life of Pi, Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook and Zero Dark Thirty.
The Academy Awards will be handed out Feb. 24 on ABC. Start planning your red carpet outfit now.
