RG&E is warning people to watch out for a scam....a person who calls and claims your electric service is about to be shut off.
The person, who has identified himself as "Carl," told a number of people to buy a "Green Dot MoneyPak Card" and then call a phone number starting with 347 with the card information.
This person has mostly targeted small businesses and restaurants in Rochester and the surrounding area.
RG&E says it doesn't call customers about payments if their account is in good standing, and people who actually do need to make urgent payments should do so directly by calling RG&E's 800 number. Customers who get a call they think is questionable should also call that number. 800-743-2110.
